{October 26, 2016}   Toxic

Maybe once upon a time
You looked into my big blue eyes
And I was your baby
Maybe
But this tale’s been told before
I’ll never be that little girl
The feelings left unspoken
I’m broken
Through great feats and tragedy
I held my head up gracefully
Never with you at my side
I cried
Lies will spread, and rumors grow
A broken heart, a broken home
Clinging to humanity
Family
Your loyalties lie with the beasts
Truth so gone you cannot speak
This love is too toxic
I’ve lost it
I can not hang on anymore
Praying you’ll be something more
It’s time we both let go
And grow
Maybe once upon a time
But time is cruel as it unwinds
I’ll never be that little girl
I cannot be your baby

{July 31, 2015}   Futile Truth

I mean to say no

But swallow down hard

My body says yes

And my lips aren’t far

I mean to detach

It’s not what we are

You somehow gain access

Straight to my heart

I mean to let go

It isn’t a choice

I lie in the dark

Still hearing your voice

I mean to retreat

Come full-force instead

Keeping my heart

In a duel with my head

I mean to step back

It’s all in good fun

And yet, I feel broken

When all’s said and done

I mean to be honest

But say I don’t care

The truth’s unavailing

And you’re well aware

{April 15, 2010}   Pieces

She was broken when you found her,

But you just picked up the pieces,

Slowly putting them together,

And she knew you had a reason,

Don’t look back until I count to three,

Baby you’re not seeing me,

A puzzle you’ve created,

But they’re just pieces,

You picked up off the ground.

She was younger when you saw her,

But since, both have gotten older,

Nights embracing through the hours,

Her head resting on your shoulder,

Don’t look back until I say tell you to,

Baby this is something new,

A masterpiece unfolding…

But they’re just pieces,

You picked up off the ground.

She was speechless when you kissed her,

But the words were still inside,

Never did quite understand it,

Till you were leaving and she cried,

Don’t look back until I say it’s time,

Baby can we both unwind.

It’s a breathtaking creation…

But they’re just pieces,

You picked up off the ground.

She was so scared when you asked her

My god, how can this be?

Hands shaking, as you looked at her,

Inside she asked “why me?”

Don’t…

look back until I count to three,

Look at what you’ve done to me.

Happy, standing here today…,

A girl made out of pieces,

You picked up off the ground.
